James Rose Center Addition Concept Project
The James Rose Center is located in Ridgewood, NJ. This studio class project required an addition to the existing site where the original carport area existed on the right side. I added my addition seen on the far right upon looking at the center when pulling up from the front (see below in the section perspective). My design has three levels and skeletal framing elements from the original existing design can be seen incorporated into railings and square overhangs. A third floor rooftop integrates into the existing second level rooftop of the already existing ranch style design. The ground floor is enclosed from the elements with a mixed facade of glass and wall, the second level is exposed to the open air by large apertures while the rooftop is fully exposed to the elements. This addition has an entrance in the front, one on the side with an elevator (red shaft), bi-fold doors in the rear and can also be accessed from the existing ranch structure by way of a second level existing rooftop into the second level or down the stairs to the ground level or up the stairs onto the third level rooftop addition. This addition also harvests water into two water collection features which can be experienced from the second levels one under the rooftop level while the other one cascades into a collection pool of water on the ground level.
